Manage notifications and email digests

Use the bell for in-app alerts, allow browser notifications if you want them, and choose a daily, weekly or no email digest with your time zone and quiet hours.

Before you start

  • You are signed in. Digest settings belong to you, not to a Flow, and cover every Flow you are in.

Steps

  1. Click the bell in the top bar to see your notifications: replies, mentions, likes and reactions, best answers, direct messages, new Waves and Pages, invitations and join requests.
  2. Click a notification to jump straight to the Wave, message or profile. Use mark all as read to clear the list.
  3. When your browser asks whether Dium may show notifications, allow it if you want alerts while the tab is in the background.
  4. Open your email digest preferences and choose daily, weekly or none.
  5. Set your time zone so the digest arrives at a sensible local time.
  6. Set quiet hours (a start hour and an end hour). Quiet hours can run past midnight, for example 22 to 7. No digest is sent during them.
  7. Follow a Wave you care about to get its updates, even if you did not start it.

What the digest contains

A digest collects your unread notifications and groups them by Flow, so one email covers everything. A daily digest is sent at most once every 20 hours and a weekly one at most once every 6 days.

Troubleshooting

The bell count seems late

Most updates arrive instantly. If your connection blocks the live channel, Dium checks again every 60 seconds.

I get no digest email

Check that the frequency is not set to none, that your quiet hours do not cover most of the day, and your spam folder. Digests come from a no-reply address at dium.io.

I get too many emails

Switch the digest from daily to weekly, or to none. In-app notifications stay available in the bell.
