In short
- Most Dium email is your digest, which you set to daily, weekly or none, with your own time zone and quiet hours.
- At most one digest a day, and never during your quiet hours.
- Marketing email only if you opt in. Unsubscribes are processed within 2 days.
- [Confirm: sponsors do not get your email address from Dium without your consent].
- Our mail is authenticated with SPF, DKIM and DMARC [confirm records are live].
Why am I getting this email?
Almost every email from Dium is about a community you joined or were invited to. Look at the footer of the email: it names the Flow and says why it was sent [confirm digest and invitation footers name the Flow and the reason]. The most common reasons:
- You joined a Flow and your digest is set to daily or weekly.
- A Flow owner or admin typed your email address into an invitation.
- You asked for a sign-in code.
- You subscribed to our newsletter.
If you did not expect it, you can stop it with the unsubscribe link, or write to [email protected] and we will look into it.
Every email we send
| Sent by | When | How often | Your control | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sign-in codes | Werify, for Dium | When you ask to sign in | One per request | Needed for your account. Cannot be turned off |
| Email digest | Dium ([email protected], sent through LNBOX) | Daily or weekly summary of unread activity (replies, mentions, likes, best answers, new Waves and Pages, messages, invitations), grouped by Flow | At most one a day (daily) or one a week (weekly), never in your quiet hours | Choose daily, weekly or none in your notification settings |
| Flow invitations | Dium, on behalf of a Flow owner or admin | When a Flow owner or admin invites your email address, with their own message | [frequency cap, for example one invitation per Flow per 7 days] | Reply or use the link to decline [confirm decline and block link] |
| Wave invitations | Dium, on behalf of a host | When a host invites you to a Wave or live session | [confirm whether sent by email or only in-app] | Notification settings |
| Account and safety notices | Dium | Important changes to your account, a suspension or restoration, changes to our terms | Only when needed | Required for your account [confirm which of these are emailed today] |
| Payment receipts | Werify Paywall | When a Flow owner pays for a plan | One per payment | Required. Sent by the payment provider [confirm] |
| Product news and newsletter | Dium | New features and guides | At most one a month | Only if you opted in. Unsubscribe in any issue |
Dium does not send a separate email for every notification. Notifications appear in the app bell and, if you allow it, as browser notifications. Email only carries them in your digest [confirm no per-event notification emails are sent].
Digests, time zones and quiet hours
You choose your digest: daily, weekly or none. You also set a time zone and quiet hours (for example 22:00 to 07:00, which can run past midnight). We only send when it is outside your quiet hours in your own time zone. There is a built-in gap of at least 20 hours between daily digests and 6 days between weekly ones, so a retry can never send you two. If you have no unread activity, we do not send a digest [confirm empty digests are skipped].
Consent and the law
Sign-in codes, digests you chose and account notices are service messages: they are part of the service you signed up for. Marketing email, such as the newsletter, we send only if you opted in. In the EU and UK we ask for clear consent, and we keep a record of when and where you gave it. We follow the US CAN-SPAM Act: honest sender names and subject lines, a working opt-out in every marketing email, and our postal address.
Unsubscribing
Every digest, invitation and marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. Our goal is one-click unsubscribe as defined in RFC 8058: your email app shows an Unsubscribe button, and one click stops that kind of email without signing in [confirm List-Unsubscribe and List-Unsubscribe-Post headers are implemented in LNBOX]. We process unsubscribes within 2 days. The legal maximum in the US is 10 business days, but we aim for faster.
Unsubscribing from one kind of email does not stop the others. Sign-in codes cannot be turned off, because they are how you get into your account.
Sponsors and your email address
[Confirm: Sponsors, exhibitors and other Page owners never receive your email address from Dium without your explicit consent]. They can see visits and clicks on their Page. If you want to share your contact details with a sponsor, you do that yourself, for example through a link on their Page. Dium does not send email on behalf of sponsors [confirm].
How we protect our email
Dium email comes from [email protected] and is sent through LNBOX, TAO.ai's email service. We sign mail with DKIM, publish SPF for our sending servers, and publish a DMARC policy so that mail pretending to be from dium.io can be rejected [confirm SPF, DKIM and DMARC records are live, and the DMARC policy level]. We never ask for passwords or card numbers by email. If an email claiming to be from Dium looks wrong, forward it to [email protected].
Our postal address
[Legal entity name], [Postal address for email footers]. This address appears in the footer of every marketing email.
