Create a Flow for your community

Sign in, choose Create Flow on your dashboard, give it a name, and you become the owner of a new community space.

Last updated For: Flow owners and admins

Before you start

  • A Dium account. You sign in with your email address and a one-time code, so there is no password to set.
  • Nothing else. Any signed-in person can create a Flow, and it is free while it has fewer than 50 members.

Steps

  1. Go to Sign in, enter your email address, and type the code we email you.
  2. On your dashboard, click Create Flow.
  3. Type a name for your community. You can also set the short web address (the part after /d/) and pick a category: community, conference, team, course, product, event or marketplace.
  4. Choose a primary colour and an accent colour so the Flow matches your brand.
  5. Create the Flow. You are now its owner, the only role that can change every setting and the plan.
  6. Open the Flow's settings and upload a logo and a banner image.
  7. In settings, decide how people join: open to anyone, by approval, by invitation only, or with a join code. You can also make the Flow public or private.
  8. Set up profile types, such as Speaker or Sponsor, before you invite people. See Invite members and set roles.
  9. Post your first Wave so new members land on something useful. See Start a Wave.

What a Flow is

A Flow is one community on Dium, with its own members, Waves (threads), Pages and settings. If you run several related communities, such as one Flow per event track, they can be grouped into a Room so members and direct messages are shared across them. Rooms are usually set up for events and partners; contact us if you need one.

Troubleshooting

The web address I want is taken

Each Flow address is unique across Dium. Add a year, a city or your organisation's short name and try again.

My logo or banner will not upload

Use a PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, SVG or HEIC file under 3 MB. Uploads are limited to 20 a minute, so wait a moment if you uploaded many files quickly.

After creating, I landed on the wrong page

This was fixed on August 20, 2026. Open your dashboard and select the new Flow. If it still happens, write to [email protected].

Creation failed or the Flow looks empty

A rare clash when two Flows were created at the same moment was fixed on September 5, 2026. Try again once. If it fails twice, email [email protected] with the name you used.

Still stuck? Email [email protected] with the Flow name and what you tried.
