Google Meet and Zoom: bring your own call

Paste a meeting link into a session Wave. Dium handles RSVPs, seats, raised hands, polls and Q&A. The video runs in your meeting tool.

What it does, and what it does not

Dium stores the link and decides who can open it. It does not connect to the Zoom or Google APIs.

  • Members RSVP and claim a seat, up to the capacity you set, then open the link.
  • Hosts go live, which shows a live banner and adds the session to Live Now.
  • Chat, polls, raised hands and breakout tables happen in the Wave, next to the call.
  • Dium does not create meetings, record them or read attendance from Zoom or Meet.

What you need

  • A Google Meet, Zoom or other meeting link
  • A profile type or role that can create session Waves
  • Host or co-host rights to go live

Setup

  1. Create the meeting

In Google Calendar or Zoom. For office hours, use a recurring meeting so one link works every week.

  2. Create a session Wave

Add a title, start time, duration and seat limit.

  3. Paste the link

Add the meeting link to the session. Add co-hosts if others will run it.

  4. Go live on the day

Click go live. Members see the banner, claim a seat and join. End the session when the call ends.

  5. Mark the answers

Questions asked in the Wave stay there. Mark the best ones so search finds them later.

Troubleshooting

Members say the link does not open

Check the meeting tool's access settings. If the meeting only admits invited accounts, members will wait in its lobby. Dium cannot admit them for you.

The session is full

Members claim seats up to the capacity on the Wave. Raise the capacity in the Wave settings, or add breakout tables.

The time looks wrong for some members

Dium shows session times in each member's own time zone. If a time looks off, check the time zone on their Moat profile.

Can Dium record the session?

No. Record in Google Meet or Zoom, then post the recording link in the Wave so it sits next to the Q&A.
