A new cohort every term. The same answers, kept.

For bootcamps, university programs and course operators who want learners helping learners, with staff in control.

Bootcamps

Twelve weeks, one chat group, and the same setup questions each intake. Keep the solved ones for the next class.

University programs

Course forums in the learning system, and real talk in a group chat staff cannot see. Give both a home you run.

Course operators

Live cohorts on top of recorded lessons. Your learners need office hours and a place to ask between them.

A starting setup you can copy

Each course or cohort gets a Flow, its own community space. Profile types are the custom roles inside it. Change any of this in Flow settings.

Suggested setup, not a fixed template. Limits such as how many sessions a TA can host are yours to set.
Profile typeCan doNotes
StudentAsk, reply, join sessions and breakouts, message classmatesCannot schedule sessions
Teaching assistantEverything a student can, plus host up to a set number of sessionsModerator role for hiding and reporting
InstructorRun sessions, post announcements, mark best answers on their WavesOrganizer role
AlumniRead and reply, host an AMA if you allow itJoins by a separate role link

Office hours that run themselves

Schedule a session once and set it to repeat weekly, biweekly or monthly. The next one appears after each session ends.

  • Seat limits and RSVPs, so a TA is not swamped
  • Breakout tables with their own capacity for group work
  • Questions asked in the session stay on the Wave for students who missed it

How Dium handles student data

Facts, not badges. Read this before you add learners.

Who can join
You choose: open, by your approval, by invite, or by a join code. A Flow can be private so only members see it.
What Dium stores
Name and photo from the member's sign-in profile, their posts, replies and direct messages, and files up to 3 MB each.
Direct messages
Scoped to your Flow or Room. A learner's DMs in your course are separate from their DMs anywhere else on Dium.
Leaving and removal
Staff can remove members. Owners can delete the whole Flow. For an export of your Flow's Waves and answers, write to [email protected].
Sign-in
Members sign in with a one-time email code or a social account. Sessions use secure, HttpOnly cookies. Security details.
Grades and records
Dium is not a learning system and has no gradebook. Keep grades, transcripts and accommodations out of it.
No certifications. Dium holds no education or privacy certifications and makes no FERPA compliance claim. If your institution needs a data agreement before learners join, talk to us first and we will tell you plainly what we can sign.

Questions from schools

Does Dium connect to Canvas, Moodle or Blackboard?

Not out of the box. Link to your Flow from the course page. If you run your own platform, the partner API can create Flows and sign learners in. See the developer overview.

Is there education pricing?

Not a published one. The Free plan covers groups under 50. Tell us about your program on the contact page.

Can alumni stay after the term?

Yes. Give them an Alumni profile type in the same Flow, or open an alumni Flow in the same Room. See Dium for alumni.
