What profile types control
A profile type is a custom role in a Flow, such as speaker, sponsor or mentor, with its own limits on what members can create and join.
How it is earned
A Flow owner sets up profile types in Flow settings. You get one in one of these ways.
- You join through an invite link made for that profile type
- You pick the type when you join a Flow that offers a choice
- An admin invites you into the type
How it is lost
You can lose a profile type, or what it allows.
- An admin removes you from the type
- An admin pauses or archives the type
- You reach a limit, such as 5 sessions. You cannot create more of that kind until the limit changes
What a profile type can control
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Wave types and counts | Which kinds of Waves members can start, and how many of each (for example 5 sessions) |
| Pages | Which page types (speaker, sponsor, exhibitor, partner) they can create or join, and how many |
| Total Waves | An overall cap on how many Waves they can start |
| Where they reply | Which Wave types they can reply on |
| Invites | Whether they can invite others |
One example
Fictional example. A conference Flow has a Speaker profile type. Speakers can start up to 5 session Waves and 10 question Waves, create 1 speaker page, and reply on discussions, questions and sessions. They cannot invite new members.
The organizer shares the speaker invite link with confirmed speakers. When Lena joins through it, she can create her speaker page right away. Attendees who join through the normal link cannot.
